Papermaking - Papermaking - Processes for preparing pulp: Mechanical or groundwood pulp is made by subjecting wood to an abrading action, either by pressing the wood against a revolving grinding stone or by passing chips through a mill. The wood fibres are separated and, to a considerable degree, fragmented. Chemical wood pulp is made by cooking wood chips with chemical solutions in digesters. Alkaline Pulping has always been an active and important community within PAPTAC. Several individuals involved in kraft mills around the country look to it as an effective and valuable forum to network with their peers in the industry and discuss operations optimization, industry challenges and product quality as well as to share ideas on issues related to workforce, training and management in.

Alkaline extraction stage is essential after chlorination bleaching stage is to remove chlorinated and oxidizing lignin products from the pulp. It is also help to reactivate the remaining lignin for the next oxidation stage. All the chlorinated lignins are not soluble in the water. Alkaline Hemp Woody Core Pulping - Impregnation characteristics, kinetic modelling and papermaking qualities. Dissertation by Birgitte de Groot: A thesis success-fully defended by the respondent at the oral dissertation on Oct. 10th in partial fulfillment for the doctor degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Agriculture in Wageningen, The Netherlands.

Semimechanical pulping, as its name implies, is a two stage process that uses a chemical mixture (most commonly sodium sulfite and alkaline salts) to soften lignin, followed by a disk refiner to fiberize the cooked chips. However, a substantial portion of the lignin still remains, and pulp yield (% of the original wood) is less than that. Alkaline Pulping is the separation of fibers from raw materials by dissolution of lignin Alkali attacks cellulose/hemicellulose & lignin. The attack is faster on lignin than carbohydrates. As pulping reaction proceeds lignin concentration decrease More carbohydrate fraction is attacked leading to pulp degradation & reduction in strength properties.

Improved Pulp Yield by Optimized Alkaline Profiles in Kraft Delignification of Birch Wood, Breaking the Pulp Yield Barrier Symposium Proceedings The use of hardwoods in kraft pulping has enjoyed a rapid increase recently, yet little information is available from the literature about effects of pulping process parameters on delignification.

NSSC pulping processes solubilize lignosulfonates and oligomeric hemicelluloses [75, 76] and have been investigated as a hemicellulose preextraction prior to alkaline pulping [77]. Separation approaches for recovering lignosulfonate and oligomeric hemicelluloses include ultrafiltration [ 78, 79 ] and flocculation with polycationic polymers.

During alkaline kraft pulping, the presence of hydrogen sulfide ions greatly facilitates delignification because of their strong nucleophilicity in comparison with hydroxyl ions, which are the only pulping agent present in soda pulping (Sjöström ; Alén b; Hon and Shiraishi ).

The technology and chemistry of recent advances in alkaline pulping are reviewed from the standpoint of the authors' work over the past few years. Topics reviewed include soda-amine [particularly soda-ethylenediamine (EDA)], soda-anthraquinone (AQ), kraft-AQ, and soda-AQ/EDA pulping and their effects on pulp strength properties and bleachability.

Nowadays, in the total pulp consumption of the world, the proportions of wood pulp, wastepaper pulp, and non-wood pulp are 63 Cited by: 2.References to this book Fundamental Advances and Innovations in the Pulp and Paper Industry, Volume 95 Brian N. Brogdon, Colleen C. Walker, Peter W.
